Better Calgary Campaign
The Better Calgary Campaign is nonpartisan, but not nonpolitical. We're professionals, academics, and small business owners; single people and parents; suburbanites and inner-city dwellers; long-term residents and recent immigrants from across the political spectrum, volunteering to make Calgary a more sustainable place to live.

Calgary Alternative Transportation Co-operative (CATCO)
We are a member-owned democratic co-operative, incorporated to promote, develop and operate transportation alternatives in Calgary.

Calgary Ecological Footprint Project
Ecological footprint is a measure of people's demand on nature. It compares the amount of resources we consume with nature's ability to provide resources and absorb waste. Currently, our demand is exceeding our supply. We are living beyond our means. The Calgary Ecological Footprint project engages citizens, business, government and organizations to take action to reduce our Ecological Footprint and protect our quality of life.

Calgary Herald - Green Guide
The Green Guide is devoted to environmental issues in Calgary. We break down complex problems into simple steps, suggest practical and innovative ways of incorporating greener living into your daily life and introduce you to people who walk the eco-talk. The website and our weekly column in Friday's Real Life section are compiled by Emma Gilchrist, a Herald writer and copy editor who is passionate about the environment and making conscious consumer choices.

Calgary Social Purchasing Portal
Our directory highlights businesses engaged in innovative workplace practices in the Calgary community, and encourages social purchasing. We are a program of Momentum, which is a Community Economic Development organization that offers hope and opportunity to people living in poverty.

Canadian Parks And Wilderness Society, Calgary/Banff Chapter
CPAWS is Canada's preeminent, non-profit wilderness protection organization. The Calgary chapter is dedicated to the preservation of Alberta's natural ecosystems and human experience of wilderness.

ChristmasFuture
ChristmasFuture empowers people to give a new kind of holiday gift - one that helps eradicate extreme poverty and changes the way we think about giving. Gift givers can send an online gift card to friends and family; the gift recipient then gets to choose from a database of poverty-eradication projects and then allocate their gift towards a project that interests them.

Citizens for a Sustainable Okotoks
Citizens for a Sustainable Okotoks was formed to provide community education and awareness of local and global environmental issues.

Clean Calgary Association
We empower Calgarians to create healthy homes and communities through environmental education, products and services.

Coalition for a Healthy Calgary
We are a coalition of individual citizens, health care professionals, scientists, landscaping and horticultural professionals, and health and environmental organizations. We are asking Calgary City Council to pass a bylaw in 2008 that will phase out the use of unnecessary pesticides on public and private lands in Calgary. We encourage all Calgarians to contact their Aldermen and candidates in order to make this an issue in the October 2007 municipal election. Help us build momentum for this campaign by urging them to support a pesticide bylaw.

Creating Calgary
Creating Calgary is a web-based project to stimulate discussion on the Built Environment in Calgary. This includes discussion about how we build and use buildings, infrastructure, and transportation systems within the city. Our aim is to engage different city stakeholders, including: developers, city staff, City Council and interested members of the public, in moving toward a more sustainable city. By facilitating dialogue, we hope to create a conversation about how Calgary develops and where priorities for the city lie.

Earth 911
The mission of Earth 911 is to empower the public with community-specific resources to improve their quality of life. This organization is a public and private sector partnership that, while initiated in the US, provides recycling and other resources across North America. This link will take visitors directly to the Alberta listings.

Earth Charter
In 1987 the United Nations World Commission on Environment and Development issued a call for the creation of an international document that would set forth fundamental principles for sustainable development. The Earth Charter is the product of a decade long, worldwide, cross-cultural conversation about common goals and shared values. It is a people's treaty that sets forth an important expression of the hopes and aspirations of the emerging global civil society.

Ecolabelling.org
Ecolabelling.org is the global, independent database of logos that identify a product or company that has met an environmentally preferable standard. It's not always obvious what an ecolabel means and there are lots of different standards with varying levels of quality control around the world. We found ourselves asking who's deciding what's green, and what do these labels actually mean? Visit our site for fast, accurate, and relevant information.

Electronic Recycling Association
We are a non-profit organization that collects old computers for recycling in Calgary and other cities across Canada. Your unwanted computers will be donated to local schools, charities, non profit groups, libraries, elderly homes, and other community based organizations. Visit our website for information about free pick up services, drop off locations or on-site recycling bins.

Evergreen Theatre
Evergreen Theatre Society is a touring, educational theatre company dedicated to science theatre of the natural world. We create original, musical productions aimed at getting young (and not-so-young) audiences singing, dancing and learning about science. We believe the best way to inspire change in the treatment of our environment is to reach out to tomorrow's decision-makers.

Freecycle Calgary
The Freecycle Network is a not-for-profit, grassroots movement that reduces waste, saves precious resources and eases the burden on our landfills. Freecycle Calgary helps people in and around Calgary to improve their own lives and the lives of others by passing on their "trash" to those who would find it "treasure". Membership is free.

Green Drinks
Originating in the UK in 1989, Green Drinks in an informal gathering of environmental like-minds who already work in the sector, or would like to, to those who are passionate about environmental issues and would like to share their knowledge and learn more to those who are just curious about simple ways to green their lives. It's an organic, self-organizing network where people have the opportunity to gather, enjoy a bite and drinks while discussing anything green.

imagineCALGARY
In 2006 The City of Calgary finalized a plan for urban sustainability. The Plan includes a long range vision and goals for the future which reflect the diversity of aspirations and interests of the community. It also includes a series of targets which provide useful reference points for organizations and individuals to determine what actions they can take to help reach the goals. As an imagineCALGARY Partner, REAP is working with other groups in the city to turn imagination into action.

Poverty Reduction Coalition
Calgary may have one of the highest standards of living in Canada, but not all Calgarians share in the opportunities and optimism. Poverty comes at a very high cost for the people who endure it and the communities in which they live. Founded by United Way of Calgary and Area, the Poverty Reduction Coalition engages all orders of government, the business community, social service organizations and community members to reduce poverty in Calgary by bringing together available resources - both human and capital. Together we are reducing poverty through collective action.

Recycling Council of Alberta
The Recycling Council of Alberta (RCA) is a not-for-profit, non-political organization formed in 1987, and approved as an official charity in 1995. The RCA's mission is to promote and facilitate waste reduction, recycling, and resource conservation in the Province of Alberta. Our online Enviro Business Guide Directory is a listing of RCA members that are working with recycled materials and that offer waste reduction products and services.

Red Dot Campaign
Canada Post uses red dots to flag households that have said NO to Junk Mail. The Red Dot Campaign reminds you of your choice to say "NO" to unwanted advertising. Choose to reduce paper waste and clutter by signing up with the Canadian Marketing Association's Do Not Contact Registry. This enables you to reduce the number of marketing offers received by mail, telephone and fax.

Slow Food Calgary
The slow food movement seeks to protect cuisines, regional dishes, ingredients, and small purveyors from the deluge of industrialization and to restore pleasures to our fast-paced and hectic lives. Slow Food Calgary makes connections between consumers, chefs, food processors and producers of organic and sustainable agricultural products, and builds public awareness of local farmer's products and acknowledges the restaurants and processors that support them.

Sustainable Alberta Association
Sustainable Alberta Association provides information, technical assistance, and incentives to employers, employees and student bodies to help reduce the number of vehicles on the road. We work with public and private entities to develop and implement innovative programs like the Calgary Commuter Challenge, which encourage changes in individual behavior and offer real solutions to transportation problems.

Vibrant Communities Calgary
We are a convening organization that brings together individuals concerned about poverty and its effects, and are committed to developing and implementing long-term strategies to address the root causes of poverty in our community. Young Environmental Professionals (YEP) - Calgary Chapter
