Membership Benefits

REAP is a small business association for companies that are committed to people and the planet as well as profits. REAP members support and promote each other's companies. We look for innovative ways to collaborate. We share ideas, information and resources. We work to educate the people of our city about green and sustainable choices.

We think your business may be right for REAP. If you meet our membership criteria and choose to join, here are a few benefits you'll enjoy:

Get more exposure for your money
With the Calgary Herald as our 2010 print media sponsor, REAP offers members advertising space in the Green Guide at 1.5 to seven times your investment in membership. For example, if you pay $5,000 in annual dues to REAP you are guaranteed to receive $10,000 in advertising exposure included in the cost of your membership. And, if you want to increase your exposure even further, REAP members may purchase additional ads in the Green Guide at 50% off.

Drive traffic to your business
Our green coupon book contains special offers on your products and services, helping to drive traffic to your website, your retail locations or your partners. If you choose to sell the passports, which are provided to members at cost, you help expand our distribution and create an additional revenue opportunity for your business.

Increase sales
REAP hosts two public events each year: Earth Week in April and the Earth Charter Summit in October. Each of these provide members with a venue to sell their products and services and interact with hundreds of conscious consumers in a live environment. REAP also coordinates other green markets throughout the year, which provide additional sales opportunities.

Get the word out in the media
Our REAP media experts are getting us attention on local radio, TV and in newspapers and magazines - and we're taking every opportunity to promote our members' businesses. In 2009 we were in the news 35 times, achieving more than 5 million impressions.

Share discounts and resources
Our members-only website is an online directory of REAP members and suppliers. Our group buying arrangements allow members to save money while making more environmentally friendly choices.

Reach Calgary consumers who care
2,000 REAP online subscribers are your target market. They live here, and they share your values. Respond directly to their questions and concerns in REAP articles and on the blog, and offer them information, product samples or special offers.

Promote your business online
The popular REAP website promotes members' businesses and links readers to their home sites. It's professionally designed to generate traffic and create sales leads. Our Action Tracker micro-site provides additional exposure by linking your business to specific ways to take action toward a greener lifestyle that relates to your products and services.

Make a splash at shows and fairs
REAP and its members are front and centre at events like the EcoLiving Fair, Justice Film Festival and Earth Day - all the places where Calgary's concerned citizens are gathering. In 2009 we participated in 50 community events in addition to the events that REAP hosted.

Trade ideas and information
Our members connect often, online, in face-to-face meetings, and at events. The REAP members-only discussion boards are lively and fascinating. And our daily feed from "green business" media keeps you current with breaking news. Our members-only library offers dozens of white papers and research studies to help you with business planning.

Stay abreast of local and national events
Our REAP team keeps you abreast of relevant meetings and conferences - in Calgary and around the world. And you'll make valuable connections through our affiliation with Business Alliance for Local Living Economies (BALLE).

Get expert advice and make powerful connections
Our monthly networking event (on the first Thursday of the month) gives you the chance to connect informally with the city's green business leaders. And our quarterly business workshops connect you with a wide variety of business leaders and sustainability experts. Our guest speakers offer insight and practical advice to help you build your business responsibly.

What our members are saying

Our members join REAP because they want to grow the movement toward sustainable business practices and create more demand for green products and services. Check out these clips from two of our Founding Members: Ross Hahn, CEO of SwizzleSticks SalonSpa, and Lauren Mangion, Founder and EcoCoach with Conscious Home.
